Frying Pan Cleaning Guide
Frying pans are made from a variety of different materials. The main ones are stainless steel, ceramic, Teflon and cast iron. And while they all do the same job, when it comes to cleaning them you need to do thing a little different according to the material used. While it is generally recommended to refer to the cleaning instructions from the product’s manufacturers, they may not always come with the product. Let’s briefly discuss how to clean the different types of frying pan.
How To Clean A Stainless Steel Frying Pan
Stainless steel frying pans are dishwasher safe but for best results it is best to wash them by hand. Use warm water along with a clean sponge to get any residue out of the pan. Always use a dish soap such as Dawn because of its grease cutting abilities. Never use bleach or ammonia on this type of pan. If there is food stuck to the pan fill it with water and let it sit for about 10 minutes.
If you are in a hurry put the pan on the stove and bring it to a boil. Take off and let it and let it cool down. This will make it easier to clean. If you aren’t in a hurry you can fill the pan with warm water and place a fabric softener sheet in the water. Let it sit overnight and when you come back in the morning the pan will be very easy to wash.

How To Clean A Ceramic Frying Pan
Before you clean a ceramic frying pan you need to let it cool down first. All you need to clean it is some baking soda and some dish soap. If there is any grease in the pan make sure you drain it out. If you have food that has stuck to the skillet you will need to sprinkle some baking soda on it. Add a little water and let it sit for a couple of hours. After a couple of hours come back and wash it out. The food should easily come loose now.
If there isn’t any food sticking to the pan you can skip this step. Instead just wash the pan with some water and dish soap. If the pan is dishwasher safe you can just put it in the dishwasher and wash it that way.
How To Clean A Teflon Frying Pan
The great thing about Teflon frying pans is that they are very easy to clean. No matter what gets stuck on them it can easily come off. All you need is a little bit of vinegar, baking powder and a soft dish cloth. Fill the pan with warm water and add a little vinegar and a little baking powder. Put the dish cloth in there and let is soak for a couple of minutes. Now gently scrub around the pan. Any left behind food should come right on off. If it doesn’t try heating the pan with the mixture on it.
How To Clean A Cast Iron Frying Skillet
All you need to clean a cast iron frying pan is a nylon cleaning brush. It is not recommended that you use soap on a cast iron frying pan because it will dissolve the infused fat created with seasoning the skillet. If you have hard food stuck on your pan boil some water in it first. This will help loosen up the food and make it easier to come off.
Dry the pan with a soft towel and then add a thin coat of cooking oil. Make sure you do this while the skillet is still warm. If rust spots appear, scour the rusty areas with steel wool, wash, dry and repeat the seasoning process.
